Proper handling extends module life and prevents damage to modules and switches.

Before Installation

• Verify module type matches slot (SFP/SFP+/QSFP)
• Check module datasheet against requirements
• Handle by body, not fiber connector
• Keep protective caps on until ready
• ESD wristband for critical installations

Installation Procedure

1. Remove blank filler from switch cage (save for later)
2. Verify orientation (latch position varies by vendor)
3. Push firmly until you feel a click (latch engages)
4. Do not force — realign if resistance
5. Remove protective dust caps from optical bores
6. Inspect and clean fiber patch cord ferrules
7. Insert LC connector (matched keying)
8. Verify link light after brief delay

Removal Procedure

1. Disconnect fiber first
2. Cap fiber connectors immediately
3. Cap module optical bores
4. Locate release latch (bail or lever)
5. Push lever down/pull bail to unlock
6. Slide module straight out
